The History of SENJOJIKI

Some eighty years ago, in Wakamatsu port, which was busy as coal shipping port those days, Tsuru Mizukami, the former female general, and Koji Mizukami,

the former general began the food stall of tempura.

That was the origin of Gyoan Senjojiki. At that time, Koji was only fourteen years old.

After the World War Ⅱ, they were at a loss for fund shortage to open

Japanese-style restaurant.

For every bank they visited for financial support turned away at the door.

But those who had supported them helped.

At last they could open the restaurant “Aka Chochin”(Red Lantern).

That was the one they had long been longing for.

After that, they increased their sales and stored money.

Finally they opened “Gyoan Senjojiki” in 1969.

The location adjacent to the bedrock of Senjojiki, designated as Genkai National Park,

was a just only mountain at that time.

They cut open the mountain with no water supply and electricity

for themselves with their passion and love,

directed cultivating and tidied up little by little.

Gyan Senjojiki was completed and was and is full of their longing from their youth,

when they struggled repeatedly,

It has the long approach as if we entered the castle

and its garden has wide and green lawn.

The motif the former general adopted to “Aka Chochin” is the Gashou Zukuri houses,

which he had seen during the journey to Nagano.

You compare Senjojiki to the Japanese original landscape mixed with artificial and nature.

We hope you enjoy the dinner for which using every seasonal foodstuff,
